It takes about 10 years to get a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. I have a brown belt now and have been working on it for 12 years now at the Excel Academy. Being a business owner, father, and husband, it’s taking longer than expected. And that’s fine – because as I work on my business and get better at it, Jiu-Jitsu has shown me hope. Just as I reach the higher ranks in martial arts by memorizing the moves, it applies to the business world, as well. When I’m struggling, I can go back to Jiu-Jitsu and understand that with practice, things get easier. You have days where you plateau, and I’ve learned to push through them.
Once I do get the black belt, that’s where the journey begins. It’s almost like when you start mastering your business – that’s where you start to make your money.
My daughter, who is five years old, is pictured here on her first day of Jiu-Jitsu. Our newly born twins will also learn Jiu-Jitsu. It’s good for children because it teaches them discipline, how to deal with lifetime scenarios, and use their mind in different situations.
The martial arts have really helped me with my business life and work through problems. When there’s an action taken, there’s a reaction – and you learn to counter-balance that.
We highly recommend Excel Jiu-Jitsu as a great place to train and learn.
